As I prepare to graduate this semester, my time at Coastal Carolina University is coming to a true Chanticleer wrap-up. One of the most meaningful parts of my journey has been joining The Chanticleer newspaper, a decision that shaped not only my college experience but also my future.
Although I joined during my senior year, the impact was immediate. Being a part of this newsroom strengthened my writing and pushed me to grow into a more thoughtful, influential storyteller. I quickly learned that journalism is more than just reporting; it is a responsibility.
Journalism has allowed me to explore perspectives across local, cultural and political spaces while staying grounded in truth.
Through hands-on experience, I developed an understanding of media, law and ethics as well asthe importance of accuracy, fairness and integrity. What I value most is the opportunity to tell real stories.
From conducting interviews to writing articles that reflect the voices of our community, I found purpose in giving others a platform to be seen, heard and understood.
If I could do anything differently, I would have joined sooner. In such a short time, I gained skills and confidence that will stay with me far beyond graduation. This experience confirmed my passion for pursuing a career in reporting and continuing to share meaningful, honest stories.
Being part of The Chanticleer has been an honor. I leave CCU not only as a graduate, but as a storyteller committed to truth, impact and community
