THE CHANTICLEER

About

The Chanticleer is Coastal Carolina’s editorially independent newspaper, run by students, for students. Founded as The Fledgling in 1962, our newspaper strives to report on what matters most to our community, whether it be stories from around the world or right in our backyard.

If you have any questions, concerns, or comments, please email us at [email protected]. The faculty adviser for The Chanticleer is John Harvey, who can be contacted at [email protected].

All enrolled CCU students, undergraduates and graduates, are welcome to join The Chanticleer’s staff as reporters, photographers, videographers, or social media coordinators.

The Chanticleer’s print editions are released weekly on Thursdays. Archives of previous issues dating back to the 1960s can be found here: https://digitalcommons.coastal.edu/chanticleer/

Social Media Policy

At The Chanticleer, we believe students should have their voices heard. Public feedback is crucial to accountability in news reporting, and we’re more than welcoming of criticism. However, we must assure we communicate on a basis of mutual respect. We do not tolerate obscenity, profanity (explicit or censored), threats, hate speech, harassment, promotion, or spam on The Chanticleer’s website or any of our social media accounts. Comments containing any aforementioned materials will be deleted. It’s important to stress that this isn’t a condemnation of dissenting opinions. All we ask is for disagreements and issues to be expressed in a respectful manner.

Letter Policy

All letters to the editor must be typed, signed, or emailed with the author’s name, address, phone number, major, and position or relation to the college. All letters should be limited to 250 words. With no exceptions, all letters will be edited for length, clarity, and libelous or lewd material. Any accusations made in letters by the author are subject to confirmation. All letters must be supported by factual materials. Letters must be delivered to The Chanticleer office in Room B-205 in the Lib Jackson Student Union. Letters can also be emailed to [email protected]. The Chanticleer is printed weekly. Articles in The Chanticleer do not necessarily reflect the opinions of the staff of the paper or of Coastal Carolina University.
