Coastal Carolina football was active in the transfer portal this offseason, bringing in additions across several position groups on both sides of the ball.
The Chanticleers addressed roster turnover at key positions, while focusing on filling specific needs and building position groups as they prepare for the upcoming season
Running Back Room Adds Experience
Since leading rusher Ja’Vin Simpkins entered the transfer portal, Coastal turned its attention to reloading the running back room.
Daelen Alexander transferred in from Rice University after totaling 92 carries for 427 yards and eight touchdowns during his career.
From the SEC, Rodney Hill came to Conway from the University of Arkansas (UA), where he rushed for 554 yards with four touchdowns on 113 carries.
Jaden Allen-Hendrix, a redshirt freshman from Oklahoma State University, joined the room as a developmental piece with Power 4 experience.
Returning running backs, Dominic Knicely and Jevon Edwards, remain on the roster.
Wide Receiver Group Gets a Boost
Active at wide receiver, the Chants added four transfers.
Following head coach Ryan Beard, Tristian Gardner, joined the Chanticleers. He made an impact during his freshman season at Missouri State University, finishing with 30 receptions for 465 yards and six touchdowns.
Goldie Lawrence transferred from Florida A&M University, where he recorded 51catches for 698 yards and three touchdowns over two seasons.
Krosse Johnson arrived from UA adding another Power four presence to the receiver room.
Clayton Coppock transferred from Kennesaw State University following a strong true freshman season that included 28 catches for 311 yards and five touchdowns, along with 12 carries for 47 yards and a rushing touchdown.
Quarterback Room Reshaped
Coastal also saw turnover at quarterback, with its previous quarterback room departing through the transfer portal.
To address the position, the Chanticleers added Trever Jackson from UA and Deuce Bailey from Missouri State. Bailey appeared in limited action as a true freshman, completing 23 passes for 335 yards and two touchdowns.
Offensive Line Additions
The Chanticleers added three transfers along the offensive line: Apisa Poumele from Central Michigan University, Mason Brown from Jackson State University and Daughtry Richardson from Florida Atlantic University.
Tight Ends and Defensive Line
Jackson Kohl transferred from Missouri State, while Cyrus Ellison came from South Carolina State University. Ellison recorded 14 catches for 159 yards and a touchdown during his career.
Along the defensive line, the Chanticleers picked up Donovan Grayson from Samford University, Chandavian Bradley from Oklahoma State University, Dezmond Barnes from Missouri State and Reggie Jean from Northern Illinois University. Barnes and Jean each recorded a sack during their collegiate careers, adding depth to the front.
Linebacker Additions
Linebacker had the most change, with five new position players: Azarel Juste from Bryant University, Jesse Powell II from Elon University, Marcellius Pulliam from Michigan State University, Braxton Starnes from Missouri State and Jordan Thompson from Western Carolina University.
Pulliam is another Power four addition to the group.
Cornerback Additions
The Chanticleers also addressed the secondary with three cornerback additions.
Jalen Lee transferred from South Dakota State University, Tyler Woodard came in from Mississippi State University and Ryan Grayson arrived from Missouri State.
Looking Ahead
Coastal Carolina football has rounded out their roster for upcoming camps. With 26 total new transfers, Coastal is turning their attention to the next season.
