I’m Black, and I’m proud

For Black Americans, learning about our family history might be challenging for some individuals to determine their ancestry because of slavery. I was shocked when I found out that there is a BlackAmerican Heritage flag. The BlackAmerican Heritage flag represents the culture and history of African Americans.

The flag was created in 1967 by Melvin Charles and Gleason T. Jackson, the design of the flag was very intentional and held significance in its creation to introduce a sense of pride within the black community. The Black-American Heritage flag also represents all the years of violence and pain Black Americans have endured for centuries.

The color red represents the bloodshed of our people, the color black represents pride in the Black race and the color gold represents wisdom, prosperity, and peace. This is vital because the Black community has contributed to society’s structure, literature, entertainment, beauty, music, and politics for many years with no recognition. This is our way of growing from that experience and adopting traditions unique to our culture while preserving Afro-Cultural values.

As a Black American, this is important to me in many ways. One way this is important to me is because it gives me a sense of community and gratification to know that even though most Black Americans do not know where we come from, we have a way of coming together and lift ing each other up. I am grateful that I found out about the flag and will now carry it with dignity.

The Black-American Heritage flag is a symbol of aspiration.

The Black-American Heritage flag is a symbol of contentment.

The Black-American Heritage flag is a symbol of triumph.

The Black-American Heritage flag is a symbol of gratitude.

The Black-American Heritage flag is Black Excellence.
