Men’s basketball continues home success

The Coastal Carolina University men’s basketball team defeated the University of South Dakota Coyotes on Saturday afternoon 59-66.

Coastal had a good start in the first half, where senior point guard Henry Abraham scored 11 points to give the Chanticleers a 10-point lead at the end of the first half.

At the start of the second half, South Dakota junior guard Kruz Perrot- Hunt scored 10 points which sparked a comeback for the Coyotes that allowed them to take the lead with 15 minutes left in the second half.

The two teams remained competitive throughout the second half when both of the teams exchanged the lead six times as the clock ran out. In the end, the Chanticleers pulled away on a 7-0 run in the final minutes of the game, giving them the victory.

The new transfer Chanticleer students left an impact on the game, with two of them scoring double digits. Senior guard Jomaru Brown had 17 points, while the other senior guard Henry Abraham scored 13. Junior center Essam Mostafa also recorded his fourth double-double of the season in only five games. Mostafa had 14 points while grabbing 12 rebounds.

Coastal shot 43% from the field in the game and 38% from beyond the arc. The Chanticleers also out- rebounded the Coyotes 40-33 with 14 of them coming from offensive rebounds.

The Coyotes shot under 40% from the field and 47% from the three- point line. South Dakota struggled from the free-throw line as they only made 37% of their attempts.

Despite the competitive second half, Coastal was able to come away with the win over South Dakota, securing a 3-2 record on their season. After the loss, the Coyotes’ record is under .500 at 3-4.
