Tiger basketball pounce on Chanticleers

The Chanticleers traveled to Columbia, Missouri to take on the University of Missouri Tigers on Nov. 23 for an evening matchup.

Coastal Carolina University entered the game sporting a 2-2 record and faced
an undefeated Missouri team with a 6-0 record.

Coastal undoubtedly faced an uphill battle taking on their skilled opponents on their home court. Missouri made sure this stood true and began the game with an early lead. Missouri would go on to maintain this lead for the remainder of the game.

Coastal fought hard, however, their effort was never enough to lend them the lead, or even a second tie after drawing within the first minute of play.

Missouri led the Chanticleers 45-32 at the end of the first half. Missouri shot an impressive 47% from the field compared to Coastal’s 31%. Both teams shot with perfect accuracy from the charity stripe and Coastal went 8-8 and Missouri went 4-4.

The second half saw a steady performance from the Tigers and a breakdown from the Chanticleers. Missouri outscored Coastal 44-19 in the second half which led to a swift Missouri victory.

Missouri continued their great day on the court, shooting 46% from the field. On the other hand, Coastal’s offense struggled in an ugly way by only shooting a disappointing 17% from the field. Missouri won the game in convincing fashion, dominating Coastal in every category aside from second-chance points.

Missouri’s bench outscored Coastal’s bench 39-24. Missouri also demolished Coastal in the Points Off Turnover department to the tune of 32-3.

Should Coastal have any hopes of success this season, they will look to improve upon this performance.
