Men’s golf takes on Gopher Invitational

The men’s golf team tied for eleventh place with Toldeo in the three-day Gopher Invitational at the Windsong Farm Golf Club in Minnesota.

The Chanticleers began the final round of the invitational but were not able to climb the rankings after a 1-under-par performance on the third day.

Senior Garret Cooper finished the invitational in second place for individual scoring. Cooper had an excellent performance finishing with a career best shooting 9 under. Cooper’s sixty-sixth in the second round was also a career best. Senior Seth Taylor ended the event tied for forty-fourth overall finishing with a 2-over-par. Freshman Owen Kim tied for fifty-ninth, shooting 5 over 218 par.

Tyler Gray, super senior, tied for sixty- ninth overall with 7 over. Senior Connor Newton closed the event tied for seventy- second shooting 9 over.

The invitational was won by fellow Sun Belt member, Georgia Southern Eagles. The Eagles ended up 9 under, beating both Kansas and Kent State who finished tied for second place. Kansas and Kent State both finished the event shooting 15-under-par.

Senior Wilson Andress, lead the Eagles by finishing in first place in individual scoring, shooting 11 under.

The Chanticleers will be playing again Sept. 26 and 27 in the J.T. Poston Invitational in North Carolina.
