Surf club welcomes surfers of all experience levels
Students who enjoy the beach, making friends and learning new hobbies can look toward the Coastal Carolina Surf Club which has garnered over 100 members this semester.
During each semester, the club hosts multiple informational meetings as well as instructional beach days. During these beach days, new members can come to
a local beach and use one of the boards provided by the Surf Club to learn the basics of surfing from club leaders and other members.

“The surf club has introduced me to a lot of amazing people,” freshman marine science major Anna Dimatteo said. “We all bonded over the course of the road trip and it was overall a chill vibe.”
Non-surfers and experienced professionals are all welcome to join. The club doesn’t require any experience, and some members join simply to hangout on the beach and watch. There is no pressure, and the goal is to facilitate an enjoyable experience out on the beautiful beaches around Conway, South Carolina.
The club is currently in the process of purchasing boards that will stay on campus and be available for club members to rent for free. According to their page on Coastal Connections, the attendance fee is $100 to cover the cost of travel and includes two t-shirts, board rentals, transportation and gas reimbursement.
“Its a great opportunity to meet people from different walks of life” Mitchell Meno, co-president and senior public health and marketing major, said. “Its a great way to start a new hobby and camp while surfing.”
