Anticipating spring sports season
The beginning of February marks the preparation of the spring sports teams at Coastal Carolina University for their upcoming spring season.
There are plenty of sports available for Chanticleer students to follow along with and support throughout the spring including baseball, softball, women’s lacrosse and beach volleyball, track and field/cross country, and men’s and women’s tennis.
The softball team kicks off Feb. 9 with a doubleheader at home versus University of Massachusetts Lowell at 2 and 4 p.m. The team has a new look this season, with ten freshmen awaiting the start of their first collegiate season.
The Chanticleer baseball season kicks off on Feb. 17 at home versus Fairfield University at 4 p.m. The team will look to bounce back after narrowly missing an advance to the Super Regionals in last season’s playoffs after losing to East Carolina University.
Women’s lacrosse will play their first game at home versus Presbyterian College at noon on Feb. 12. Led by pre-season ASUN all-conference players junior Avery McIlwaine and redshirt junior Kayla Downey, the team will strive to rebound from their six and 11 season last year.
Men’s golf will begin their spring season and play their first match since Oct. 23, 2022 on Feb. 5 in Pointe Vedra Beach, Florida at The Hayt. The women’s team begins its spring season and will compete for the first time since Oct. 25 on Feb. 26 in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, at the Rivertowne Invitational.
The men’s tennis team started their season on Jan. 16 and is 3-0 so far. Meanwhile, the women’s team will play their first match on Feb. 8 against the College of Charleston in Mt. Pleasant.
The track and field/cross country season began on Jan. 14 and like the tennis teams, will compete throughout the spring.
With warmer weather comes warm weather sports at Coastal, and students and athletes alike await the spring season to be underway.
