On Monday, July 22, Coastal Carolina University, the City of Myrtle Beach, Monteith Construction and LS3P held a groundbreaking for the new theater facility in the heart of downtown Myrtle Beach.
The facility is being built in hopes of creating a brand-new arts and innovation district for Myrtle Beach. This theater has the ability to enhance the lives of residents and visitors, while encouraging economic development in the area. It is a new space for performances, film screenings, rehearsals, classroom instruction and speaker and lecture events.
The University will assume the theater for 150 days, about five months of the year, and there will be 100 third-party-use days, with 30 allotted for Myrtle Beach. The Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts’ students will conduct research projects to document, preserve and tell the history of Myrtle Beach.
This theater will seat 300 and will be a state-of-the-art facility expected to open in 2026.
