Hey everyone, welcome to “Kellers Capture.” This column will be highlighting some of my favorite photos I’ve taken and the stories behind them!
This photo was taken at Coastal Carolina University’s (CCU) 70th birthday party on Friday, Sept. 20.
CCU President Michael Benson spoke, alongside Chief of Staff Travis Overton and Student Government Association (SGA) President Gabrielle Ryder. Benson spoke of his love for the University and the vision that is currently being cultivated here.
He also honored Olympic medalist and CCU alumni Melissa Jefferson and unveiled mementos for her on behalf of the University. However, she was not in attendance due to flight issues.
Ryder spoke of the University’s positive growth in recent years.
After they spoke, we sang “Happy Birthday” to Coastal, accompanied by Benson on the piano! Students were offered free cupcakes and refreshments and had the chance to share a special experience with their University.
The capture of this issue is of Chauncey, our incredible mascot, handing out bobbleheads which were raffled off at the beginning of the ceremony. He waited eagerly as students and staff gathered around and prepared for the raffle to begin.
After Overton drew some names for the raffle, the dance team and band members took turns pulling names out of a bowl. Each time a new name was pulled, Chauncey celebrated big and waited for them to approach him so that he could hand them their very own Chauncey bobblehead!
