Meme of the Week

Meme of the Week

If you have spent time scrolling on social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram, there is a good chance you have seen numerous memes.

A meme is an image or video that includes text. The image represents the thoughts and feelings of a person or group of a particular audience. Memes can be cute, funny, political and sometimes satirical.

The text on the meme is a caption that is intended to elicit humor among the audience. This worldwide phenomenon is important because social media and social engagement have become the new norm and these memes promote thoughts and feelings.

The meme above is referring to the New Year. The text says, “Let me guess… New Year, new you?” As around this time of year, you always hear people say, “New Year, New me.”

We create new resolutions to eat healthier, work out or break other bad habits. Psychologically, we need time to step back and reflect on the past year and change habits we did not like.

The photo associated with the text is from a popular children’s movieWilly Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.” Gene Wilder, the actor who plays Willy Wonka in the film, is known for having unconventional expressions. The meme promotes humor in a school or workplace setting because you hear others asking, “what are your New Year’s resolutions?”
