Women’s tennis invites and dismisses

The Coastal Carolina University (CCU) women’s tennis team claimed victory in 25 out of 33 total matches in the two-day Lynn Stevens Memorial Invitational.

The invitational was held at CCU’s
home courts. The Chanticleers started the tournament off hot with 14 match wins on Friday, Oct. 7. They had 12 singles wins and two doubles wins on the first day.

The team split their matches 2-2 in doubles play against the Appalachian State University Mountaineers. Coastal almost swept Queens University of Charlotte in singles play, winning seven out of their eight matches. CCU also dominated the Charleston Southern University (CSU) Buccaneers in singles play. The team was in control over the Buccaneers, winning five out of the six matches played.

The Chanticleers continued their dominance on day two of the invitational, losing only four out of the 15 matches.

In doubles play, Coastal prevailed against Queens, winning all four matches convincingly. The team also won two out of their three matches against CSU. They

dropped only one doubles match and won five out of eight matches in singles on the second day.

The Chanticleers will compete next in the ITA Carolina Regionals from Oct. 13- 17 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
