The Coastal Carolina volleyball team was victorious in its two-game regular season series against Georgia State, winning both matches 3-0.

On Sept. 23, the Chanticleers won the first set of the first match 25-12, which was their biggest lead throughout the night. They went on to win the next two sets 25-20, 25-16 to take care of the Panthers.

Coastal’s Jasmine Rivest and Nyla Shepherd led the way offensively, tallying eight and seven kills respectively. Anchor and Captain Lina Perugini, finished with 17 total digs.

The team stayed in rhythm in their second match against Georgia State on Sept. 24, sweeping the Panthers 3-0 again. The scoring for the sets was 25-20, 25-14, 25-23. Leading the team was Paulina Perez Rosas, who finished the match with a total of 13 kills and 13 digs.

Perugini, who leads the team in digs on the season, credits her teammates and the hard work put in during practices for the team’s defensive strength.

“Digs are a big team effort, and I’m really happy with how many we have as a team not just individually and we’ve really prided ourselves on defense as a whole,” Perugini said. “In practice, we’ve been putting a lot of emphasis on defense.”

The Chanticleers improve to 10-5 on the season and start 2-0 in Sun Belt play. The team looks to carry this momentum into their matchups against App State on Sept. 29 and 30.
