Softball’s Chanticleer Showdown
At this season’s Chanticleer Showdown, the Chants won two of three games while their fourth was canceled due to weather.
On Feb. 24, the Chanticleers beat the Monmouth Hawks 12 to two in five innings. Three Chants hit home runs in this game, including freshman third baseman Keirsten Roose, sophomore outfielder Madison Hudson, and two from junior designated player Iyanla De Jesus.
The next day, Coastal took on the Central Michigan Chippewas. Rallying off of a three-run first inning fueled by doubles from senior shortstop Abbey Montoya and sophomore second baseman Riley Zana as well as Keirsten Roose’s fifth home run of the season. The Chants went on to defeat the Chippewas nine to three.
On Saturday, the Chanticleers lost to the University of Maryland Terrapins, five to two. Abbey Montoya added to her home run tally, hitting a solo shot in the sixth inning, which was her fifth of the season.
The Chanticleers look to expand on their offensive momentum during future games.
