The Coastal Carolina men’s soccer team suffered a 4-1 loss against the University of North Florida at the CCU soccer complex, Friday.
The Chants held a tight 1-1 game, until North Florida scored three goals in the last nine minutes. Coastal struck in the first 38th minute when midfielder Christian Cook buried a shot on an open net to put the Chants ahead 1-0.
CCU goalkeeper Alec Laible held strong early, turning away three shots on goal, before North Florida slipped an equalizer into the top right corner just moments before halftime.
Tied 1-1 at the break, North Florida began to tilt the game in their favor with sharper passes and more momentum. Despite North Florida’s possessiveness, the Chants’ defense kept up with the pace.
The Chants lost control with ten minutes left in the game. At minute 81, North Florida scored again, making the game 2-1.
With the game still close, Coastal pressed for an answer. North Florida capitalized on their efforts and scored two more unanswered goals making it out of reach for a Coastal comeback.
The game ended 4-1 in favor of North Florida.
With the loss, Coastal drops to 1-3 on the season.
Coastal will look to have more success in the Sun Belt conference play on the road against Marshall next Friday, Sept. 19.
