Coastal Carolina University baseball hosted the Arkansas State University Red Wolves in a three-game series April 4-6; The Chanticleers won Friday and Saturday’s contests but fell short on Sunday.
In a tightly contested, low-scoring battle on Sunday afternoon, April 6, the Red Wolves came out on top, defeating the No. 21 ranked Coastal Carolina Chanticleers 2-0.
The Red Wolves’ Jack Hibbard was the standout player of the game, dominating on the mound. Hibbard threw seven impressive innings, allowing only two hits, no runs and racking up eight strikeouts to shut down the Chanticleers’ offense.
The Chanticleer’s offense struggled throughout the game, with only three hits to their name. Despite a pair of doubles from CCU’s Caden Bodine and Dean Mihos, the Chanticleers were unable to capitalize on their limited opportunities. The Arkansas State defense, backed by Hibbard’s strong pitching, kept the high-powered Coastal Carolina lineup off the board and secured the win.
While the Chanticleers couldn’t close out the series sweep, they still managed to take two out of three games from the Red Wolves this weekend. Coastal Carolina moves to 23-9 on the season and remains in second place in the Sun Belt Conference, just behind Troy University.
Meanwhile, Arkansas State improves to 14-17, sitting in 10th place in the SBC.
Coastal Carolina bounced back from this loss and against UNC Wilmington on April 8, winning 8-4.
