Elon Musk and his team systematically infiltrated the United States government in two months under the presidency of Donald Trump.
Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) led by Elon Musk is destined for disaster. Appointed by President Donald Trump, the democratic system of voting has been disregarded, and the nation has had no voice in his appointment.
The most concerning point of Musk’s infiltration is his attempt to abolish the Department of Education. DOGE effectively cut 89 independent research contracts worth $900 million, according to DOGE’s post on X. The right to an adequate education is protected in the U.S. Constitution and is slowly being stripped away under the presidency of Donald Trump and DOGE.
Cutting the Department of Education allows the government to create an uneducated population, that in turn becomes much easier to control. Without governmental funding from the Department of Education, Title I programs that allocate funding for extra teachers, purchasing instructional technology, after school programs and numerous other assistances would be cut.
In the 2023-2024 academic year, 20 Horry County public schools received Title I funding, according to the Horry County Schools’ website. Without programs such as these, children will not receive the fair and necessary education they deserve.
The lack of funding directly impacts those of lower financial standing. Yet Elon Musk, the richest man in the world, can send his children to private schools and isn’t impacted by the funding cuts.
Another area disproportionally affected by the DOGE cuts is the National Park Service. Roughly 1,000 National Park Service employees and at least 3,000 from the Forest Service were laid off. The National Park Service reported 325.5 million recreation visits in 2024. Such a vast number of visits in the coming year is not feasible without the proper resources and number of employees.
Several tours, hikes and camping sites have been closed due to staffing cuts. This depletion of funding for a department as necessary as the preservation of the national parks is disheartening after the efforts of President Theodore Roosevelt.
Elon Musk’s involvement in the U.S. government needs to be thoroughly vetted and go through the essential democratic process of election. Without such checks and balances the nation may never recover.
