The Coastal Carolina University board of trustees announced on Feb. 21 that University President Michael Benson received an offer to become the next president of West Virginia University (WVU).
It is still unclear if Benson has made a decision to accept this offer.
The board has already called a committee to initiate a national search to select the University’s next president, according to a campuswide email sent out Friday night from University Marketing and Communication. Vice Chair Natasha Hanna and Secretary/Treasurer Patrick Sparks will serve as chair and vice chair of the Presidential Search Committee, respectively.
Benson became the third president of CCU on Jan. 1, 2021.
“I am confident that the pool of candidates for the next president of Coastal Carolina University will reflect the remarkable growth and progress the campus community has achieved under his leadership,” Board Chairman H. Delan Stevens said, quoted in the email.
