Coastal Carolina University (CCU) women’s basketball returned home for Education Day to welcome Sun Belt Conference rival Georgia State University after a long road trip to play four games over the holidays.
Coastal closed out the game with an 8-4 run and ended with a final score of 83-68.
Georgia State opened the game quickly with a layup by graduate forward Mahogany Matthews. Coastal quickly responded with a 3-pointer bucket by junior guard Savanah Brooks.
Later, in what would quickly become a game of runs, Coastal went on a 16-5 run in the final 2:30 of the half after being knotted up at 24– eventually ending the half with the score 40-29.
The half-closing run saw three 3-pointers by Coastal senior guard Kristian Williams. Williams went 7-14 from 3-point range, and tallied 24 points total.
Georgia State came out of the half to string together an 11-2 run of their own to bring the score within 3 at 43-40.
Coastal however, was able to pull away once again in what started to look like a 3-point clinic, dropping six 3-pointers in the quarter alone and outscoring Georgia State 26-23 in the third quarter.
