Coastal Carolina University (CCU) women’s basketball team beat the University of North Carolina Greensboro Spartans in their home opener, 69-62.
Forward Jaylen Ponder for Coastal was ranked top three for earning the most points for the Chanticleers.
“It felt great, I like the atmosphere and everything else.” Ponder said.
The Spartans were leading the majority of the match until the fourth quarter when CCU forward Alancia Ramsey for the Chanticleers made a three-point shot, taking the lead.
Guard Savannah Brooks for the Chanticleers had the highest number of assists and rebounds during the game and put up a fight against the Spartans.
“I am very excited to see what this team can do,” Brooks said.
The Spartans had a difficult time with the ball before the shot clock ran out.
Guard Kelly Boyle for the Spartans had the most possession time with the ball, which may have affected the team’s overall play.
In the fourth quarter, guard Mallory Bruce got a defensive rebound with eight minutes left. By the end of the game, she ended up with five rebounds in total.
Bruce also earned the most points for the Chanticleers, leading her teammates with 16 points just from her.
The crowd was engaged watching the players but also with all of the fun interactive games they had during timeouts.
Coastal provided free pizzas to the crowd and also had a DJ in the stands providing music.
