Folks were asked to wear their best Halloween costume to play games and eat food at the social justice club’s festive event on Oct. 30.
Students showed up to the game room in the Lib Jackson Student Union to compete by playing billiards, consoles, ping pong, and much more for the chance to collect raffle tickets and win a “boo basket.”
Attendees ended up staying a total of about three hours from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Senior interdisciplinary studies major Olivia Brannon, president of the organization, knew the boo basket was worth the competition.
“We are also doing a raffle to raise funds for the club to be able to put on events like these,” Brannon said. “It’s a Halloween themed basket with all sorts of goodies including a shirt, blanket, a Squishmallow, candles.”
Along with self-promotion, the social justice club provided voting information to those who do not know where to cast their vote for the upcoming presidential election on Nov. 5.
Students said they enjoyed the food selection and being able to express themselves while having fun playing their favorite games. They had options of chicken wings with different sauces as well as cauliflower items with plenty of lemonade and tea to wash it down.
“I like that they offered free food and had games to play as well so why not go out and mingle,” senior public health major Sterling Pearson said. “I like that [they had] options for vegetarians and vegans too. It is a nice variety.”
