The last couple of weeks have been tough for many, with not one but two Category 3 and 4 hurricanes.
Hurricane Helene made landfall in Florida on Sept. 26 as a Category 4, and nearly two weeks later, was hit by Category 3 Hurricane Milton. The first hurricane’s effects were felt most through the southeast, with serious impacts in nearby in the Asheville, North Carolina.
Hitting so close to home, many Coastal Carolina University (CCU) departments and students have taken initiative and placed donation drop boxes in various buildings across campus in addition to donation drives. For more information on how you can help, see “Hurricane Helene annihilates southeast SC” on pg. 3.
Shortly after relief efforts began to taking place for those affected by Helene in Florida, Milton made landfall. The storm was originally projected to be a Category 5 hurricane, expected to take a serious toll on the Tampa Bay area.
Both storms have left people across the country without power, gas, homes and worse. According to NBC News, the death toll from Helene stands at around 220 and Milton with 17 confirmed deaths so far.
The Chanticleer would like to extend their deepest sympathies to all those impacted by the natural disasters that have taken place over the past month. We encourage students, faculty and staff to donate when/if able in order to help combat these affects.
