From Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders to the cowboys of the movie “Twisters,” this year’s pop culture influences the hottest Halloween costumes.
Last year, we saw how the “Barbie” movie inspired many college students to dress as Margot Robbie and different versions of Barbie. Wednesday Addams was also a popular costume from the hit Netflix show “Wednesday.”
This year, pop culture moments like Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce, Brat Summer with Charli XCX and the popularity of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders will influence costumes.
Due to the popularity of the show “America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders,” I think we will see a rise in cheerleaders, especially since the “Thunderstruck” dance has been going viral on TikTok. The show brought the cheerleaders back into the spotlight after showcasing how hard they work for their jobs and the fact that most dancers work a second job on top of their training and game days.
Netflix shows have ruled this year’s costume predictions. The recent release of “Monsters,” detailing the trial of the Menendez brothers from 1989, has exploded on TikTok, with fans gushing over the actors portraying the brothers. This trend may spark some controversy when dressing as two convicted murderers.
Edits of the actors have already caused some controversy on the internet with people needing to clarify that the edits are about the actors, not the people they are portraying. The public feels very strongly about their opinions on the Menendez brothers, but I still think men will choose to dress up as them, mostly to appeal to the millions of women fawning over Nicholas Alexander Chavez who plays Lyle.
The recent movie “Twisters” will also influence men to dress like cowboys. Glen Powell has taken over the TikTok editing scene since the movie’s release, with fans raving about his cowboy character. A TikTok edit of him in a white tank top deemed him “white boy of the month,” over the summer.
Overall, I think the most popular couples Halloween costume this year will be Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift. Swift has been frequenting her new boyfriend’s football games and has become a style icon for aspiring wives and girlfriends of athletes (WAGs). It’s an easy choice for guys and perfect for Swiftie girlfriends.
Charli XCX is bringing back an era of club music and neon green fashion. Fans have dubbed this summer “Brat Summer,” following the release of her album “Brat,” and they’re carrying that theme into October for “Brat-ween.” It wouldn’t be surprising to see students in neon green brat shirts, ’90s sunglasses and black miniskirts on Halloween night.
