Hey everyone, welcome to “Kellers Capture.” This column will be highlighting some of my favorite photos I’ve taken and the stories behind them!
As I began my photography career in concert photography, it only felt fitting to showcase a photograph from a concert in July where the band S3PT3MB3R Project performed. The atmosphere was electric, with crowds of locals eagerly awaiting the band’s performance.
Prior to the performance, I arrived at the venue at around 5 p.m. with the band so we could begin unloading and sound checking for the 8 p.m. show. I got to help the band set up and began shooting pictures as soon as I could so I could document the entire night.
As it creeped towards 8 p.m. I headed out from the green room where the band was hanging out before their set. I positioned myself strategically, camera in hand, ready to document not just the performance, but the emotions that filled the room.
This picture encapsulates the moment in which their lead guitarist and vocalist, who goes by the name S3PT3MB3R, engaged with both her audience and other bandmates on stage. She has the gift of stage presence, presents herself confidently and draws her audience in.
Her bright clothes and clown aesthetic serve as mirror of their fun and upbeat rock sound. Behind S3PT3MB3R is bassist Dru Thornhill and drummer Gabe Lancia who, along with Spencer Atwood, the band’s keys and rhythmic guitar, complete the rest of the band.
This photograph serves as a reminder of the band’s connection to their audience, connection to each other, and the overall stage presence.
