Despite the football team’s loss to the University of Virginia 43-24 on Sept. 21, a record-breaking crowd of 22,104 was there.
The Cavaliers started the game with a forced fumble on the opening kickoff that resulted in a touchdown three plays later. An interception shortly after in the first quarter that led to another UVA touchdown.
“We had a game plan, and they just outplayed us,” CCU linebacker Shane Bruce said.
Bruce totaled 11 tackles. 10 of them were assisted tackles, and one of them was solo.
Bruce still has high hopes for this season even though they lost.
Wide receiver Tray Taylor had 70 rushing yards, averaging about 23.3 yards per reception. Taylor also had one fumble in the beginning of the first quarter.
Even though this is Taylor’s first year playing at Coastal he still plans on creating more plays for their offense.
“Wherever they put me, I just have to take advantage,” Taylor said.
Head coach Tim Beck, in a post-game press conference, said the Chanticleers played hard. Beck anticipated a high-scoring game between Coastal and Virginia and felt like the offense was out of rhythm.
Beck said having a bye-week before playing Old Dominion University on Oct. 5 will be “a good chance for our guys to catch their breath.”
