Former Republican presidential primary candidate and
governor of South Carolina Nikki Haley held a rally at Coastal Carolina University on Sunday, Jan. 28 in the Williams-Brice building at 5 p.m.
Horry County and surrounding community members filled 650
seats in the gymnasium. Just over halfway through her speech, Haley was interrupted by two hecklers. One of the two stood up and voiced his disagreement while ripping one of her campaign signs, and another simply stated he supported Trump.
Pam Hemphill, a 70-year-old woman who attended the rally, said she was involved in and arrested for the events that took place on Jan. 6, 2021. She was charged with picketing and parading, resulting in a two-month prison sentence and three years parole.
Former President Donald Trump spoke for over one-and-a-half hours at his “Get Out the Vote” rally at the HTC Center on Saturday, Feb. 10.
Trump supporters in attendance wore all kinds of Trump merchandise. Certain slogans such as: “MAGA,” “Let’s Go Brandon,” “Jesus Is My Savior, Trump Is My President” were visible on clothing.
The HTC Center has a capacity of 3,000 people, and every seat was taken, leaving only standing room for some. All ages were in attendance. Senior citizens, students and small children were in the crowd.
Editor’s note: This semester, Coastal Carolina University had two prominent political candidates visit campus. The
Chanticleer decided that both rallies deserved coverage, executed with unbiased writing and reporting by our staff members.
