Special Thanks
Being the editor-in-chief for the past semester was an indescribable experience. Of course, “indescribable” doesn’t exactly make for a compelling goodbye, so I’ll try my best to find the words for it.
Working in this position wasn’t easy, and I couldn’t have possibly done it without the support of my staff. They truly are the reason for everything great about the paper. From their care for their work, their limitless creativity, and their patience with me, I’m grateful to have had the chance to work with them. Madison has been an excellent assistant editor, with unrelenting persistence and an eye for detail.
Tiera continuously outdid herself as art director, always going above and beyond for her work. Kelsie’s ability to adapt and wear so many different hats as our managing editor was nothing short of impressive. Annette wore many hats as well as our graduate assistant, always taking time to help out with anything and offer advice.
Sarah’s work supporting the paper as advertising director was also crucial to our success. I’m also grateful for the editors-in-chief who preceded me, Megan and Shelbi, for the examples they set as I worked under them. When I worked as a reporter, there was never a time when I didn’t feel welcome, and I thank them for putting up with my annoying questions.
A big thanks also to the reporters who contributed this semester. Whether you’ve been with the paper for a while, or you started out not too long ago, I’ve loved being able to work with you all and see your skills as journalists develop.
And of course, I’d like to thank our adviser Dr. Weinhold for her support and giving me the opportunity to work with so many wonderful people in the first place.
It’s hard to believe I went from being too afraid to even join the paper in my freshman year to now becoming so heavily involved with it. Journalism wasn’t really on my radar when I first came to Coastal, and I’ve since gained a new appreciation for it.
Even with campus being so close to home, my experience here has shown me things and taken me to places far beyond it. I don’t know what the future holds for me after I graduate, but the variety of experiences I’ve been able to have will surely prepare me for whatever’s thrown my way.
