Gullah Geechee Day this weekend
The Horry and Georgetown counties are gathering Feb. 25 to celebrate their third annual Gullah Geechee Community Day. This event allows others to engage in the wide-ranging traditions of African culture. There will be live performances, various food vendors, and many tables dedicated to art and crafts that were imperative in the past and are still prominent today.
Director of the Joyner Institute Charles Norton said this event is something that speaks for itself and takes pride in knowing that more students and locals want to immerse themselves in the Gullah Geechee culture.
“I am most excited about talking with the musician, Q. Smalls, and his contribution to cultural music,” Norton said.
Q. Smalls is best known for his music and activism in the Gullah community and will be making a special appearance at the event. The Gullah Geechee Community Day will be held in Downtown Conway on Saturday, Feb. 25 from 10 m. to 4 p.m.
