On April 9, ESPN NFL analyst Adam Schefter announced via Twitter that Dwayne Haskins Jr. was killed on a south Florida highway. Haskins’ agent Cedric Saunders relayed the news to Schefter. 

Haskins began making a name for himself at Ohio State University as a redshirt sophomore in 2018. Haskins threw for 50 touchdowns, 4,831 yards, and only had eight interceptions. That same season he led the team to a Rose Bowl win over Washington.  

After the impressive season, Haskins was picked for the 2019 NFL Draft. He was drafted with the 15th pick by the Washington Commanders, known then as the Washington Redskins. He recently signed a one-year contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers, in position to compete for the starting QB job.  

He wanted to prove people wrong and was in Florida training with Steelers’ QBs, RBs, and WRs to make that a reality. 

Haskins was 24 years old at the time of his passing. His friends and teammates described him as an upbeat guy with an infectious smile. He made a lasting impact on those who encountered him, both on and off the football field.
